About Praxipet
Is Praxipet a veterinary clinic?
No. Praxipet is a pet owner support consultancy — not a
veterinary clinic. We do not diagnose, prescribe, or treat
medical conditions. We provide educational and non-clinical
guidance to help you navigate your pet's care and make
informed decisions about when to seek professional veterinary
help.
Who are the consultants at Praxipet?
Praxipet is founded and run by Laura De La Torre, a pet care
specialist and author of educational eBooks on responsible pet
ownership. Our guidance is evidence-based, ethical, and always
delivered with the welfare of your animal in mind.
What animals do you support?
We support owners of dogs, cats, and exotic animals (such as
rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, reptiles, and others). When
booking, please specify your animal's species and breed so we
can tailor our guidance. If you're unsure whether we can help
with your specific animal, please reach out first.
Is this service available Australia-wide?
Yes! All our services are completely virtual and available to
pet owners anywhere in Australia. Sessions are conducted via
Zoom or Google Meet, and email-based support is also available
for certain services.
Services & Booking
How do I book a consultation?
Simply click "Book Now" on our website or fill in the contact
form. We'll ask for your email, phone number, your pet's
details (species, breed, age), and the main concern you'd like
to address. We'll then confirm your appointment and send a
Zoom or Google Meet link via email.
What information should I have ready when booking?
For most services, we'll ask for: (1) your preferred language
(English or Spanish), (2) your pet's species, breed, and age,
(3) a brief description of your main concern or question. For
post-vet support, you may also want to have any documents or
instructions from your vet handy.
How does payment work?
Payment is collected prior to the consultation. Once your
booking is confirmed and payment received, you'll receive your
session information and Zoom or Google Meet link via email. We
accept common payment methods — details will be provided at
booking.
What if I choose email or phone support for the post-vet consultation?
If you choose email, you'll be asked to write out your
question at booking and we'll respond with a detailed written
answer. If you choose phone, we'll ask for your number and a
suitable time window to receive the call.
Do you offer support in Spanish?
Yes! All our services are available in both English and
Spanish. When booking, simply indicate your preferred language
and your consultation will be conducted accordingly. We also
offer live translation assistance ($80/h) to help
Spanish-speaking owners during veterinary appointments.
Can I buy an eBook without booking a session?
Yes! Our educational eBooks by Laura De La Torre are available
for direct purchase. They range from $20 to $35 and are
available as digital downloads. Contact us to purchase.
Pet care guidance
Can Praxipet tell me what's wrong with my pet?
No. We are not able to diagnose medical conditions — that
requires a clinical examination by a licensed veterinarian.
What we can do is help you understand your pet's symptoms,
assess the urgency of the situation, explain possible general
reasons why pets behave in certain ways, and help you decide
whether and how quickly to seek veterinary care.
How is a diet review different from a prescription diet?
Our commercial diet review is a non-formulation service. We
help you compare commercially available pet food products
based on your pet's species, life stage, and general needs. We
do not formulate custom diets or replace the role of a
veterinary nutritionist — if your pet has a medical condition
requiring a specific diet, always consult your vet.
Is Praxipet a replacement for going to the vet?
Absolutely not. Praxipet is a complement to — not a
replacement for — regular veterinary care. We strongly uphold
the vital role of licensed veterinarians. Our goal is to help
you be a more informed and prepared pet owner, so that when
you do visit the vet, you get more out of that appointment and
can follow through confidently with care at home.
